when they make down jackets...how do they get the feathers?

rather plumage...for jackets, blankets... do they kill the bird and pluck it out? so i assume these geese are caged?

  1. Birds used for down are usually geese. They do not kill them, but they do grab them and rip out the downy under feathers. They honk and scream during this process. Not the most humane thing, but they are fine after wards. Birds do this themselves to line their nests but when they do it is just certain feathers and the nesting behavior (and hormones) makes the feathers more loose.
