How do I store down jackets during the summer?

I have two down jackets and I have no idea how to store them during the summer. Can I just vacuum seal them in the plastic bags? Would that flatten the jackets?

  1. I don't like vacuum bags. They can damage the feathers. I would cover them in plastic bags and leave them on the hangers.
  2. Hummm I place mine in a pillowcase then in a strong type plastic bag and push the air out to flatten it, then I quickly twist up the end to seal it. I wouldn't vaccum it because that might break the feathers, that is IF your down is part feathers and down. IF it is pure down you won't damage it, as the down hasn't got the spiney part. Then in the cold months, remove it and toss it in the dryer on low and let it tumble for about 20 minutes to fluff it and warm it up....you will be nice and toasty....
  3. I store my down jackets in a rubber maid box with lid I also through a dryer sheet or two in there to keep them smelling fresh. that is the only way I could think of that would not flatten them because down does not bounce back like cotton or synthetics do.
  4. I just leave them hanging in the coat closet.
