How do I stop the feather clumbs in my down jackets?
I handwashed my Columbia down jacket and then let it dry out but the feathers somehow clumped together and some feathers fell out during the wash. How do I fix it without throwing it away? And it has this funky smell coming off the jacket now...is it because the feathers rotted?

- put in the dryer with tennis balls to prevent clumping. Also use low heat setting.
- use tennis balls in the dryer the coat is still wet if you have a smell there... finish drying it. the smell of wet animal will go away and the feathers will fluff when the coat is fully dry.
- Rewash it and put it in the dryer either with tennis balls or a pair of clean sneakers. The smell is from the damp feathers. You need to dry it until BONE dry. The slightest bit of moisture will smell again. The reason the feathers are coming out is that the material covering them is not a high enough thread count. It's going to continue.
